The apostle Paul wrote from a Roman prison to the Church at Philippi.  And in that letter he spoke about his prayers for the Philippians...

Phil. 1:3-4
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

Long before the age of communications, before telephones or emails, the apostle Paul had a long distance fellowship with the Church at Philippi.  A fellowship of prayer to God for the Philippians that brought him joy.
