Hi, I’m Brenda McConnell, the Chairperson of our Ladies ministry, S.I.S. (Sisters in Service). First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time to check out our website. As you can see we have a ministry to offer to every one of your family members. Let me tell you a little bit about this ministry. This is a ministry designed for all women at New Hope Baptist from college age to 100. We meet once a month, usually the 3rd Monday of the month. Our normal site is our gym, but sometimes we go out somewhere. On a normal meeting night we meet at 7:00 p.m., everyone brings a snack, and we fellowship, sing, worship our Lord, sometimes shed a tear or two, and we always seem to find something to laugh at. The meeting starts out with a couple of songs lead by our very lovely Pastor’s wife, Kim Love. We then ask for prayer requests, and we pray for those with needs. Sometimes that takes up half of our meeting time, but no one seems to mind! God loves it when we cry out to Him. Someone, chosen in advance, shares with us a short Bible lesson, we play a game or make some sort of craft, and then we end the evening sharing the treats and a story or two with each other. Sometimes the stories make us cry, but we always find a time and a story that will make us laugh. I love when it’s time to wind up the evening, and a few ladies, gather in the kitchen to put the final touches on the clean up duties, and a good story always seems to come up, and again, sometimes tearful, and sometimes very funny. I don’t know about anyone else, but I walk out of there feeling just a little bit closer to the ladies who have attended, and always a lot closer to God.
In the past few months, Pastor and the Deacons have started holding their Deacons meeting at the same time of our S.I.S. meeting, but they are in the church. When we are cleaning up we usually invite them over to clean up the left-over snacks. It’s kind of nice knowing they are there in case someone runs into car trouble.
I guess I should probably tell you where we got our name. We, sisters of the family of God, provide a service to the church, and church family when needed. We feed shut-in’s, we provide a meal to those who are grieving due to a loss loved-one, or to someone who has had surgery, to the family who has just had a new baby, and to visiting missionaries. We send cards or go visit and help those who are in need. We try to take care for all of our missionaries when they visit our church, and last but not least we always try to make sure that our Pastor always has a Brownie or two!!
